To foster a supportive campus environment, WACC has newly introduced a suicide prevention training program, the QPR Gatekeeper Training, to equip CUHK staff members with the skills necessary to help those in crisis.
QPR stands for Question, Persuade, and Refer — the three simple steps anyone can learn to help save a life from suicide. Just as people trained in CPR (i.e. cardiopulmonary resuscitation, an emergency medical intervention) help save thousands of lives each year, people trained in QPR learn how to recognize the warning signs of a suicide crisis and how to question, persuade, and refer individuals to appropriate resources for help. This program was developed in 1995 by Dr. Paul Quinnett as an emergency mental health intervention to help prevent suicide. It has become one of the most widely distributed programs globally and at universities.
The course typically takes 2 hours to complete. Each participant will receive a QPR booklet and a certificate issued by the QPR Institute after completing the training. University departments/units are welcome to complete and submit an online request form. Let’s join hands to cultivate a caring and supportive campus environment!
In addition to the QPR Gatekeeper Training, WACC offers Mental Health Module-based Training for staff. For more details, please visit our website.
