The Student Experience and Development Section of the Office of Student Affairs collaborates with the Hong Kong Red Cross and promotes its events and activities to students to help them understand humanity and the latest social topics. This year, three achievements have been attained with our strategic partner, the Hong Kong Red Cross.
Firstly, the Hong Kong Red Cross University Club (RCU) – CUHK Inauguration Ceremony & Elite Partnership Award 2024 was successfully held on 20 March 2025 evening, marking a significant milestone in CUHK’s humanitarian journey. This year, nine dedicated CUHK students founded the university’s first Red Cross University Club (RCU), “Meraki”, with a mission to promote care for vulnerable communities and raise awareness of global humanitarian issues. Through awareness campaigns, volunteer initiatives, and blood donation drives, “Meraki” will uphold the core values of humanitarianism, providing CUHK students with a platform to engage in meaningful humanitarian efforts.

Secondly, at the Ceremony, the Hong Kong Red Cross also presented the Young Donor Medal Prizes to those CUHK students who have donated blood at least three times in 2024, recognizing their commitment to saving lives. Moreover, during the CUHK University Blood Donation Marathon in March 2025, 320+ registrations for blood donation were received from our CUHK community, and a total of 280+ units of blood were collected. Therefore, CUHK received the Elite Partnership Award for its longstanding support of the blood donation movement, reflecting the university’s dedication to contributing to the people in need.

Thirdly, in collaboration with the Hong Kong Red Cross (HKRC), we organized the “RC UniVal” in CUHK on 7 and 8 April 2025. The event aimed to deepen students’ understanding of humanitarian needs in armed conflicts through large-scale art exhibitions and booth games. It also incorporated augmented reality technology to show participants how they could contribute to this global issue as world citizens, using animations to depict various humanitarian relief efforts. “Meraki” was also engaged in organizing this event. This event has successfully reached out to approximately 150 students. We encouraged all students to continue supporting “Meraki” in future events, joining hands to support those in need, and contributing to the global community!
