Starting Your CUHK Journey: A Special Welcome for our 2025 cohort of non-local students

On 30 and 31 August 2025, the International Student Association (ISA) and the Mainland Undergraduate Association (MUA), jointly hosted its annual orientation programme Meet-and-Greet Days 2025, a signature orientation event in collaboration with the Office of Student Affairs (OSA) warmly welcomed over 500 non-local freshmen to campus. The event marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter for students arriving from across the globe.

The welcoming ceremony was graced by Professor KO Wing Hung, Associate Vice President (Student Experience) and University Dean of Students; Ms. TAM Yi Lam Elaine, Director of Student Affairs; and Mr. LEE Wing Kong Simon, Director of Security and Transport. Their heartfelt speeches offered encouragement and inspiration, setting a positive tone for the students’ academic journey ahead.

Throughout the programme, students were immersed in a dynamic and supportive environment designed to foster friendships, cultural exchange, and a sense of belonging. From the moment they arrived, freshmen engaged in interactive games and activities that introduced them to Hong Kong’s vibrant local culture. Senior students played a key role in guiding their younger peers, sharing personal insights and practical tips to help them navigate university life with confidence.

To ensure students were well-prepared for their transition, OSA delivered a series of engaging activities focused on cultural adaptation and integration, university resources and scam prevention. These initiatives not only equipped students with essential knowledge to stay safe and informed, but also encouraged them to embrace CUHK’s multicultural environment and appreciate the diverse perspectives that enrich the university community.

The event culminated in a lively celebration known as The Big Show, where performances by CC Band and Shaw Band lit up the stage. The energy and enthusiasm of the performers brought the community together in a joyful display of music and cultural pride, highlighting the diversity that makes CUHK so unique.

As the Meet-and-Greet Days came to a close, the message was clear: CUHK is more than a place of learning—it is a community where cultures converge, friendships flourish, and personal growth begins. To all our non-local students, we extend a warm and heartfelt welcome. May your time at CUHK be filled with discovery, connection, and unforgettable experiences.
