Meaningful changes begin with simple gestures. The Chinese University of Hong Kong community came together during the Wellness and SEN Week from 9 to 17 October 2025, an annual initiative launched by the Wellness and Counselling Centre (WACC) of the Office of Student Affairs. This year’s theme, “Spreading Kindness”, was to invite every student and staff to engage in small but thoughtful acts, creating ripples of positive change and enhance well-being across the campus of CUHK.
Conversations and awareness on mental wellness, inclusiveness, and understanding of Special Educational Needs (SEN) are fostered through a series of activities:
1. Quiz to “Master Stress, Unlock your Potential”
The short video series about stress management, followed by an interactive quiz, equipped hundreds of full-time CUHK students with practical strategies to manage stress and overall well-being.
2. Wellness and SEN Promotion Workshop
To enhance CUHK community’s understanding of SEN, self-care, and interpersonal awareness, three signature workshops were held, which created an inclusive space to nurture thoughtful reflection, perspectives exchange, and personal growth.
- Visual Impairment and Wheelchair Experiential Workshop
Rolling up their sleeves, participants gained firsthand insight into daily obstacles encountered by individuals with visual impairments and mobility needs, which deepened their empathy and appreciation for accessibility and inclusion. - Daily Self-care: The Art of Remembering Yourself Every Day
Through guided reflection and practical exercises, participants left not only with knowledge on self-care, but also personalized wellness plans for mental well-being, beginning to build habits that promote emotional resilience. - Relationship University – LOVE 1001
Individual emotional patterns do influence romantic relationships. Through personality assessments and interactive scenarios of speed dating, participants explored their love styles, emotional needs, and roles in partnerships.
3. Wellness and Inclusive Fair
During the three-day Wellness and Inclusive Fair, our campus transformed into a hub for connections with the heartfelt celebration of kindness. Thousands of staff and students discovered that simple acts of kindness is powerful to create lasting impact and nurture the community.
Meaningful connections often start with share moments of joy and creativity. From interactive game booths hosted by student groups, departments, social enterprises and non-profit organizations, to calming and recharging DIY craft stations, the fair featured more than 10 interactive booths.
The heart of the fair was the collaborative Kindness Canva, where participants posted different acts of kindness to “build the kind together”, growing into a testament of collective care. Adding a playful twist, the Pick and Mix Sweets station delighted visitors with sweet treats.
Meanwhile, the eco-conscious seed paper turned memories into a spread of kindness. Participants visited different booths, collected stamps and redeemed the card for a unique blind box surprise. When planted, it would grow into flowers, blooming into a lasting symbol of love and care.
While the official events have concluded, the spirit of the “Spreading Kindness: Wellness and SEN Week” continues to flourish across the campus. From the values embraced to the connections, a lasting imprint is left, empowering the CUHK community to act with kindness in everyday life. Let us all be the “I” in kind—and make CUHK a place where love and compassion grow naturally.
