Welcome to the new academic year! As you embark on your university journey, are you filled with anticipation yet feeling a bit uncertain? The Wellness and Counselling Centre (WACC) of the Office of Student Affairs offers a range of mental health support for CUHK students, helping you smoothly transition, embrace a fulfilling university life, and achieve personal growth.
Initial Assessment Booking Service
WACC is staffed by a professional team of counsellors with backgrounds in clinical psychology, social work and/or counselling, dedicated to providing professional psychological and counselling services to students. To provide timely assistance and facilitate new users’ service enrollment, an online Initial Assessment Booking Service has been launched. All registered full-time undergraduate and postgraduate students who are new to the WACC counselling service are welcome to use it.
Mental Health Screening for New Students
At the beginning of each academic year, WACC launches a mental health screening for new students. It is FREE and CONFIDENTIAL! Upon completion, you will receive immediate personalized feedback and strategies to enhance your mental wellness and to cope with symptoms of depression or anxiety with greater confidence. We sincerely invite you to take 5 minutes to complete our Mental Health Screening and check in on your wellbeing.
CUHK 24-hour Emotional Support Hotline
Besides face-to-face counselling services available during office hours, WACC also operates the CUHK 24-hour Emotional Support Hotline (5400 2055) to support you 24/7—anytime, anywhere. This hotline serves to provide emotional support to CUHK full-time students and part-time PGDE students. The service is provided by professional counsellors from the Christian Family Service Centre.
Multicultural Psychological Support Service for Non-Local Students
As an international institution, CUHK brings together students from diverse cultural backgrounds who may have varying needs regarding psychological counselling services. To strengthen counselling support for non-local students, WACC provides Multicultural Psychological Support Service to full-time non-local students, including exchange students. Local students with extensive exposure to cultural experiences outside Hong Kong are also eligible. Qualified students are entitled to up to 6 counselling sessions. Follow-up services will be determined based on individual circumstances.
We have also organized a series of activities for non-local students. You are warmly invited to join us to make new friends in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere while experiencing local culture.
In addition, we have recently launched a new YouTube video series, “Home Away from Home: Cultural Adjustment and Well-Being”, featuring three non-local CUHK students sharing their authentic experiences of adapting to life in Hong Kong and at CUHK. Through their personal stories, the series explores common challenges and experiences related to cultural adjustment, social connection, and identity development.

Upcoming Exhibition: (Un)Seen | Our Moments With Loneliness
Although loneliness is a shared human experience, it often remains a hidden topic that can make us feel isolated in our struggles. From 20 to 30 October 2026, WACC will present the “(Un)Seen | Our Moments With Loneliness ” exhibition, creating a safe and inclusive space. Featuring student artworks, stories from public figures, and engaging interactive elements, this exhibition invites you to immerse yourself, connect with yourself and others, and find warmth and strength.
