The 11th year of the Social Enterprise Startup Scheme (SESS) 2024-2025 was completed in July 2025. Three student teams stood out from 41 applicant teams and were awarded a maximum of $100,000 in seed funding to support their social enterprise startup and development.
After a year of guidance and training provided by the Office of Student Affairs and professional mentors, 14 qualified teams were selected from 41 teams to present their business concepts and operational plans to a panel of professional business leaders. Their themes and ideas were diverse, including education, technology, health, and animal care. Three student teams from different disciplines stood out and were awarded a seed fund of up to HK$100,000 to develop and operate their social enterprises.
The three awarded teams each have distinct focuses and visions. USIMS Career Path AI utilizes AI technology to support students in their career planning. Pawsitive offers prospective pet owners experiences related to pet care and the entire lifecycle of a pet, fostering a culture of respect for life and responsible adoption. Lastly, WriteRight has developed its own handwriting analysis technology to provide intelligent error detection, effectively supporting students’ needs for learning traditional Chinese characters.

Pawsitive
Pawsitive aims at building a Hong Kong that respects life, chooses adoption thoughtfully, and never turns its back on the creatures. They turn life education into games and immersive journeys, letting students, parents and would-be owners live through bottle feeds for orphaned pups, the patience of rehabilitating anxious adults, and the tearful goodbye to a grey-muzzled senior—all before they ever sign adoption papers. One lesson can change the final chapter of a life. By walking the full arc of companionship in advance, people discover the true cost of “forever” and the depth of the promise they are about to make. Pawsitive vision is a city where every adoption is a considered, compassionate choice, where shelters empty because hearts are full, and where the next generation grows up believing that a pet is family, not a trend.
