The Office of Student Affairs (OSA) warmly welcomes non-local undergraduate and postgraduate students as they begin an exciting new chapter of their academic journey. Through a series of orientation and welcoming activities, the University aims to help students from around the world connect with one another, adjust to campus life, and develop a strong sense of belonging within the CUHK community.
Meet-and-Greet Days for Non-local Undergraduate Students
From 28 to 30 August 2026, the International Student Association (ISA) and the Mainland Undergraduate Association (MUA), in collaboration with OSA, jointly organized Meet-and-Greet Days 2026, welcoming over 600 incoming non-local undergraduate students to CUHK. The programme marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter for students arriving from around the world.
The welcoming ceremony on 28 August 2026 was graced by Professor KO Wing Hung, Associate Vice-President (Student Experience) and University Dean of Students; Ms. TAM Yi Lam Elaine, Director of Student Affairs. Their heartfelt remarks offered encouragement and inspiration, setting a positive tone for the students’ academic journey ahead.
To support students in making a smooth transition to university life, OSA delivered a series of engaging activities focusing on cultural adaptation and integration, university resources, and scam prevention. In collaboration with University Library, Independent Learning Centre, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, the Hong Kong Customs and Excise Department and other external organizations, a range of information counters was also set up to provide students with useful resources, practical guidance, and essential information for their university journey.
HOLUP Julia Magdalena, a Year 1 non-local student from Poland in the Interdisciplinary Major Programme in Global Economics and Finance, shared: “I have long been interested in Chinese culture and hoped to study in this part of the world. A visit by CUHK professors to my high school in Poland introduced me to CUHK’s academic strengths and student life in Hong Kong, leaving a strong impression on me. As an international economic hub, Hong Kong also offers many internship and career opportunities, making it an ideal place to learn, grow and prepare for the future.”
Throughout the student-led orientation programme, new students were immersed in a dynamic and supportive environment designed to foster friendships, promote cultural exchange, and cultivate a strong sense of belonging. From the moment they arrived, they participated in interactive games and activities that introduced them to Hong Kong’s vibrant local culture. Senior students also played a key role in welcoming and guiding their new peers, sharing personal experiences and practical tips to help them navigate university life with confidence.
Welcoming Day for Non-Local Postgraduate Students 2026
On 28 August 2026, the Office of Student Affairs welcomed around 400 new postgraduate students and their parents to the Welcoming Day for Non-Local Postgraduate Students, with additional participants joining online via Zoom. A tea reception at the start of the programme provided a valuable opportunity for students to connect with peers and begin building their CUHK community. The programme featured welcome remarks from University leaders, including the Associate Vice-President (Student Experience) and University Dean of Students, the Dean of the Graduate School, and the Director of Student Affairs, who shared insights on academic pursuits, student support, well-being, safety, and scam prevention. Throughout the day, participants gained insights into key aspects of postgraduate life through student sharing sessions, a Kahoot quiz, exhibition booths, and a guided campus tour. The event offered a comprehensive introduction to academic life, student support resources, well-being and safety, and campus opportunities, enabling students to embark on their CUHK journey with confidence and a strong sense of belonging.
Anti-Scam Awareness Quiz
To further strengthen students’ awareness of scam prevention, the University launched the Mandatory Anti-Scam Awareness Quiz for all newly admitted students in the 2026-27 academic year. During the orientation and welcoming activities on 28 August 2026, promotional corners featuring anti-scam posters were set up to encourage students to complete the quiz. The initiative was also introduced during the programme, where students were reminded of the importance of staying vigilant against increasingly sophisticated scams and were encouraged to complete the quiz if they had not yet done so. Through this initiative, students can better understand common scam tactics and learn practical strategies to safeguard themselves while studying and living in Hong Kong.
Embarking on a New Journey at CUHK Together
Together, these initiatives equipped students with the knowledge needed to stay safe, informed, and connected. They also encouraged students to embrace CUHK’s multicultural environment and appreciate the diverse perspectives and experiences that enrich the University community.
As one of CUHK’s signature orientation programmes, the event provides freshmen with a warm welcome and introduces them to the people, resources, and experiences that will support their university journey.
CUHK is not only a place for the pursuit of knowledge, but also a diverse community where cultures meet, friendships blossom, connections grow, and people thrive together.
We extend our warmest welcome to all non-local undergraduate and postgraduate students joining CUHK. May you embrace new opportunities, form meaningful connections, enrich yourselves, and begin a rewarding and unforgettable new chapter at CUHK.
